I carve my spoons like the chair maker that I am. I split the stock from the log, use a drawknife to get it to dimension and steam bend the crook. I carve the bowl with gouges and the outside with a drawknife, spokeshave and finish with a sloyd knife. I paint some of the handles with milk paint and finish all the spoons with 100% tung oil. Just like with my chairs, I don't scrape or sand away tool marks. I enjoy the vitality they give to an object, and the story they tell of how it was made.
All my spoons can be used for either cooking or serving.
